He who has cut the strap (hatred), the thong (craving), and the rope (heresies), together with the appendages (latent tendencies), who has thrown up the cross-bar (ignorance), who is enlightened (Buddha), him Y call a brhmana. Ido not call him a brhmana merely because he is bom of a (brahmin) womb or sprung from a (brahmin) mother. He is merely a 'Dear-addresser', if he be with impediments. ¸Ó¸®¸¦ ¹­¾ú±â ¶§¹®¿¡, Áý¾È ¶§¹®¿¡ ¾Æ´Ï¸é Ãâ»ý(¼ººÐ) ¶§¹®¿¡ ¹Ù¶ó¹®ÀÌ µÇÁö ¾Ê³×.±×·¯³ª ±×¿¡°Ô´Â Áø½Ç°ú ´ö¼ºÀÌ ¸ðµÎ Á¸ÀçÇϸç ûÁ¤ÇÑ ±×°¡ ¹Ù·Î ¹Ù¶ó¹®À̳×. Not by matted hair, nor by family, nor by hirth does one become a brahmana. But in whom there exist both truth and righteousness, pure is he, a brahmana is he. Ãâó : ¿µ¾î·Î Àд ¹ý±¸°æ

(¾Ó°±À½À» ÇÏÁö ¾Ê´Â °Í¸¸À¸·Î) ¹Ù¶ó¹®¿¡°Ô´Â ÀÛÀº À̵浵 ¾ø³×.¾Æ³¢´Â °Í¿¡¼­ ¸¶À½À» ¶¼¾î¹ö¸± ¶§,(¹«¾ùÀΰ¡¸¦) ÇØÄ¡·Á´Â ¶æÀ» ¸ØÃâ ¶§¸¶´Ù ±×·² ¶§¿¡¸¸ ½½ÇÄÀÌ Àáµå³×. Unto a brahmana the (non-retaliation) is of no small advantage. When the mind is weaned from things dear, whenever the intent to harm ceases, then and then only doth sorrow subside. One should not strike a brahmana, nor should a brahmana vent (his wrath) on one who has struck him. Shame on him who strikes a brahmana! More shame on him who giver vent(to his wrath!). ¿Â°® ¾ÇÇà ¹ö·ÈÀ¸´Ï ¹Ù¶ó¹®À̶ó ºÎ¸£°í, ÆòÈ­·Ó°Ô »ç´Ï »ç¹®À̶ó ºÎ¸£¸ç, ´õ·¯¿òÀ» (¸ðµÎ) ¹ö·È±â¿¡ Ãâ°¡ÀÚ¶ó°í ºÎ¸£³×. Because he has discarded evil, he is called a brahmana; because he lives in peace, he is called a samana; because he give up the impurities, he is called a pabbajita - recluse. Ãâó : ¿µ¾î·Î Àд ¹ý±¸°æ

By day shines the sun; by night shines the moon; in regalia shines the king; in meditation shines the Arahant; but the Buddha in his glory shines at all times, by day and night. He who is meditative, stainless and secluded, he who has done his duty and is free from corruptions, he who has attained the Highest Goal, - him I call a brahmana. Ãâó : ¿µ¾î·Î Àд ¹ý±¸°æ

(¶°³ª¾ß ÇÒ) ÀÌÂÊ ¾ð´ö(°¨°¢ ±â°ü)µµ ¾øÀ¸¸ç (µµ´ÞÇØ¾ß ÇÒ) ÀúÂÊ ¾ð´ö(°¨°¢ ´ë»ó)µµ ¾ø°í ±«·Î¿öÇÒ Àϵµ ¾øÀ¸¸ç µµ´öÀû °áÇÔ¿¡¼­ ¹þ¾î³ª ÀÚÀ¯·Î¿î »ç¶÷, ±×¸¦ ÀÏ·¯ ¹Ù¶ó¹®À̶ó Çϳ×. He who has for him neither this shore (i.e. the sense bases) nor the other shore(i.e. the sense object), and who undistressed and free from moral defilements, - him Icall a brahmana. O brahman, cut off the stream of craving with diligence, and abandon sense desires. Associate with good friends, who are energetic and whose livelihood is pure; let him amiable and be correct in his conduct. And this becomes the beginning here for a wise bhikkhu"sense control, contentment, restraint with regard to the Fundamental Code, association with beneficient and energetic friends whose livelihood is pure.
