내 허물을 지적하고 꾸짖어주는 지혜로운 사람을 만났거든 그를 따르라 그는 감추어진 보물을 찾아준 고마운 분이니 그를 따르라 그런 사람을 따르면 좋은 일이 있을뿐 나쁜 일은 결코 없으리라. 深觀善惡 心知畏忌 畏而不犯 終吉無憂 故世有福 念思紹行 善致其願 福祿轉勝 심관선악 심지외기 외이불범 종길무우 고세유복 염사소행 선치기원 복록전승 If a person sees a wise man who reproaches him (for his faults), who shows what is to be avoided, he should follow such a wise man as he would a revealer of hidden treasures. 일반 신자나 출가한 스님들이나 이 일을 한 것은 나라고 생각하라 그들은 해야 할 일과 하지 말아야 할 일 무엇이나 내 뜻에 따라야 한다 이와 같이 말함은 어리석은 자의 생각이다 그는 욕심과 자만이 점점 커진다 勿의此養 爲家捨罪 此非至意 用用何益. 愚爲愚計想 欲慢日用增. 물의차양 위가사죄 차비지의 용용하익. 우위우계상 욕만일용증. 'Let both the householders and the monks think that this is done by me. Let them follow my pleasure in what should be done and what should not be done.' 어리석은 사람은 형식만을 따라 몇달이고 금욕 고행을 한다 그러나 그 공덕은 참된 진리를 생각하는 사람의 16분의 1에도 미치지 못한다 從月至於月 愚者用飮食 彼不信於佛 十六不獲一 종월지어월 우자용음식 피불신어불 십육불획일 Let a fool month after month eat his food with the tip (of a blade) of kusa grass; nevertheless he is not worth the sixteenth part of those who have well understood the law. 출처 : 법구경

어리석은 자는 나쁜 짓을 하고 나서도 그 결과가 나타나기 전에는 꿀같이 생각한다 불행한 결과가 눈앞에 닥쳐와서야 그때 비로소 뉘우치고 괴로워한다 過罪未熟 愚以怡淡 至其熟時 自受大罪 과죄미숙 우이이담 지기숙시 자수대죄 So long as an evil deed does not bear fruit, the fool thinks that it is like honey; but when it bears fruit, then the fool suffers grief. 출처 : 법구경

어리석은 자가 어리석은 줄 알면 그만큼 그는 지혜롭다 그러나 어리석으면서 지혜롭다고 한다면 그는 참으로 어리석은 사람이다 愚者自稱愚 常知善힐慧. 愚人自稱智 是謂愚中甚. 우자자칭우 상지선힐혜. 우인자칭지 시위우중심. The fool who knows his foolishness is wise at least to that extent; but a fool who thinks himself wise is called a fool indeed. 출처 : 법구경

'내 자식이다' '내 재산이다' 하면서 어리석은 사람은 괴로워한다 제 몸도 자기 것이 아닌데 어찌 자식과 재산이 제 것일까 行爲不善 退見悔린. 致涕流面 報由宿習. 有子有財 愚唯汲汲 我且非我 何有子財. 行爲德善 進覩歡喜 應來受福 喜笑悅習.행위불선 퇴견회린. 치체류면 보유숙습. 유자유재 우유급급 아차비아 하유자재. 행위덕선 진도환희 응래수복 희소열습. 나그네길에서 자기보다 뛰어나거나 비슷한 사람을 만나지 못했거든 차라리 혼자서 갈 것이지 어리석은 자와는 길벗이 되지 말라 學無朋類 不得善友 寧獨守善 不與愚偕 自受大罪 학무붕류 부득선우 영독수선 불여우해 자수대죄 If on a journey (a traveller ) does not meet his better or equal let him firmly pursue his journey by himself; there is no companionship with a fool. 출처 : 법구경
