부처는 만나기 어렵다 아무데서나 태어나지 않기 때문에 이 같은 성자가 태어난 집안은 영원히 평화롭고 번창할 것이다 明人難値亦不比有其所生處族親蒙慶 명인난치 역불비유 기소생처 족친몽경 A well-bred person (a Buddha) is difficult to be found. He is not born everywhere. Wherever such a wise one is born that household prospers. 출처 : 법구경

괴로움과 괴로움이 일어난 원인과 괴로움을 없애는 것과 괴로움을 없애는 데 이르는 여덟 가지 바른 길이 있다 이것만이 안전하고 뛰어나 의지할 곳 이런 의지할 곳을 얻은 후에야 모든 괴로움에서 벗어나리라 生死極苦從諦得度度世入道斯除衆苦 생사극고 종체득도 도세입도 사제중고 自歸三尊最吉最上唯獨有是度一切苦 자귀삼존 최길최상 유독유시 도일체고 Suffering, the origin of suffering, the cessation of suffering, and the noble eightfold path which leads to the cessation of suffering. 공포에 쫓긴 사람들은 산과 숲 속으로 들어가 동산과 나무와 사당에 제사하며 의지할 곳을 찾는다그러나 그곳은 안전하게 의지할 곳도 가장 좋은 곳도 아니다 그런 곳을 찾은 후에도 온갖 고통에서 벗어날 수는 없다 或多自歸山川樹神廟立圖像祭祠求福 혹다자귀 산천수신 묘립도상 제사구복 自歸如是非吉非上彼不能來度我衆苦 자귀여시 비길비상 피불능래 도아중고 Men driven by fear go to many a refuge, to mountains, and to forests, to sacred trees, and shrines.That, verily, is not a safe refuge, that is not best refuge. 지혜로운 이는 그와 같이 알고 천상의 쾌락도 기뻐하지 않는다 바르게 깨달은 이의 제자는 욕망이 다 없어짐을 기뻐한다 雖有天欲慧捨無貪樂離恩愛爲佛弟子 수유천욕 혜사무탐 악리은애 위불제자 Even in celestial pleasures he finds no delights. The disciple who is fully awakened delights only in the destruction of all desires. 출처 : 법구경

황금이 소나기처럼 쏟아질지라도 사람의 욕망을 다 채울 수는 없다 욕망에는 짧은 쾌락에 많은 고통이 따른다 天雨七寶欲猶無厭樂少苦多覺者爲賢 천우칠보 욕유무염 낙소고다 각자위현 There is no satisfaction of one's passions even by a shower of gold pieces. He who knows that 'passions are of small enjoyment and productive of pain' is a wise man. 출처 : 법구경

남을 헐뜯지 말고 상처 입히지 말며 계율을 지키고 음식을 절제하며 홀로 한가히 앉아 사색에 전념하라 이것이 깨달은 이의 가르침이다 不女堯亦不惱如戒一切持少食捨身貪有行幽隱處意諦以有힐 是能奉佛敎 불여요역불뇌 여계일체지 소식사신탐 유행유은처 의체이유힐 시능봉불교 Not reviling, not injuring, (practising) restraint according to the law, moderation in eating, dwelling in solitude, diligence in higher thought, this is the teaching of the awakened. 출처 : 법구경

참고 견딤은 최상의 고행 대자유에 이르는 것이 가장 뛰어나다고 모든 깨달은 사람들은 한결같이 말한다 남을 해치는 이는 출가자가 아니고 남을 괴롭히는 이는 수행자가 아니다 忍爲最自守泥洹佛稱上捨家不犯戒息心無所害 인위최자수 이원불칭상 사가불범계 식심무소해 Patience which is long suffering is the highest austerity. The awakened declare nirvana to be the highest (of things). He verily is not an anchorite who oppresses (others); he is not an ascetic who causes grief to another. 출처 : 법구경

악한 일을 하지 말고 선한 일 널리 행해 마음을 깨끗이 하라 이것이 모든 부처들의 가르침이다 諸惡莫作諸善奉行自淨其意是諸佛敎 제악막작 제선봉행 자정기의 시제불교 The eschewing of all evil, the perfecting of good deeds, the purifying of one's mind, this is the teaching of the Buddhas (the awakened). 출처 : 법구경

사람으로 태어나기 어렵고 죽을 사람 남은 목숨 보존하기 어려우며 바른 가르침을 듣기도 어렵지만 깨달은 사람의 출현은 더욱 어려운 일이다 得生人道難生壽亦難得世間有佛難佛法難得聞 득생인도난 생수역난득 세간유불난 불법난득문 Difficult is it to obtain birth as a human being; difficult is the life of mortals; difficult is the hearing of the true law, difficult is the rise of buddhahood (or enlightenment). 출처 : 법구경

깨달음을 얻어 깊이 생각하고 명상에 전념하는 지혜로운 이는 이 세상에서 떠나 고요를 즐긴다 신들도 그를 부러워한다 勇健立一心出家日夜滅根絶無欲意學正念淸明 용건입일심 출가일야멸 근절무욕의 학정념청명 Even the gods emulate those wise men who are given to meditation, who delight in the peace of emancipation (from desire) the enlightened, the thoughtful. 출처 : 법구경

그물처럼 뒤얽힌 욕망조차 어디에서도 그를 유혹할 수 없다 그 행동에 다함이 없고 자취도 없는 부처를 그 누가 어떤 도로써 유혹하거나 인도할수 있을 것인가 決網無괘碍愛盡無所積佛智深無極未踐迹令踐 결망무괘애 애진무소적 불지심무극 미천적령천 He whom no desire net-like or poisonous can lead astray, by what track can you lead him, the awakened, of infinite perception, the trackless? 출처 : 법구경

부처의 승리는 깨뜨릴 수 없고 아무도 그의 승리에 미칠수 없다 부처의 경지는 넓어서 끝이 없고 자취를 남기지 않는다 그 누가 어떤 도로써 유혹하거나 인도할 수 있을 것인가 己勝不受惡一切勝世間叡智廓無彊開朦令八道 기승불수악 일체승세간 예지곽무강 개몽령팔도 He whose conquest is not conquered again, into whose conquest no one in this world enters, by what track can you lead him, the awakened, of infinite perception, the trackless? 출처 : 법구경

온 세상의 왕이 되기 보다 천상에 올라가기보다 또는 온 세상을 다스리기 보다 대자유에 이르는 첫걸음이 훨씬 뛰어나다. 夫求爵位財尊貴升天福辯慧世間悍斯聞爲第一 부구작위재 존귀승천복 변혜세간한 사문위제일 Better than absolute sovereignty on earth, better than going to heaven, better than lordship over all the worlds is the reward of reaching the stream (the attainment of the first step in sanctification). 출처 : 법구경

욕심 많은 사람은 천상에 갈 수 없다 어리석은 자는 베푸는 것을 좋아하지 않는다 그러나 지혜로운 이는 베풀기를 좋아하므로 저 세상에서 복을 누린다. 愚不修天行亦不譽布施信施助善者從是到彼安 우불수천행 역불예포시 신시조선자 종시도피안 Verily, the niggardly do not go to the world of the gods. Fools, indeed, do not praise giving. But the wise man, rejoicing in charity, becomes on that (account) happy in the other world. 출처 : 법구경

오직 하나인 진리를 어기고 함부로 거짓말을 하고 오는 세상을 믿지 않는 사람은 어떠한 악이라도 범하고 만다. 一法脫過謂妄語人不免後世靡惡不更 일법탈과 위망어인 불면후세 미악불경 He who violates the one law (the Buddha's doctrine), who speaks falsely, scoffs at another world, there is no evil he will not do. 출처 : 법구경

08월 30일

백조는 태양의 길을 가고 신통력이 있는 이는 허공을 난다 지혜로운 이는 악마와 그 무리 물리치고 이 세상을 벗어난다. 如雁將群避羅高翔明人導世度脫魔衆 여안장군 피라고상 명인도세 도탈마중 The swans go on the path of the sun, they go through the sky by means of their miraculous power. The wise are led out of this world, having conquered Mara (the tempter) and his hosts. 출처 : 법구경

이 세상은 깜깜한 암흑 여기서 분명하게 가려 보는 이는 드물다 그물에서 벗어난 새가 드물듯이 천상에 오르는 사람 지극히 적다. 痴覆天下貪令不見邪疑却道若愚行是 치복천하 탐령불견 사의각도 약우행시 This world is blinded, few only can see here. Like birds escaped from the net a few go to heaven. 출처 : 법구경

08월 28일

어쩌다가 못된 짓을 했더라도 착한 행동으로 덮어 버린다면 그는 이 세상을 비추리라 구름을 벗어난 달처럼. 人前爲過以善滅之是照時間如月雲消 인전위과 이선멸지 시조시간 여월운소 He whose evil conduct is covered by good conduct lights up this world like the moon when freed from a cloud. 출처 : 법구경

08월 27일

이전에는 게을렀어도 지금 게으르지 않다면 그는 이 세상을 비추리라 구름을 벗어난 달처럼. 人前爲過後止不犯是照時間如月雲消 인전위과 후지불범 시조시간 여월운소 He who formerly was thoughtless and afterwards became reflective (sober) lights up this word like the moon when freed from a cloud. 출처 : 법구경

08월 26일

자, 이 세상을 한번 보라 왕의수레 처럼 잘 꾸며진 이 세상을 어리석은 자는 그 속에 빠지지만 지혜로운 이는 거기에 집착하지 않는다. 如是當觀身如王雜色車愚者所染著智者遠離之 여시당관신 여왕잡색거 우자소염저 지자원리지 Come, look at this world resembling a painted royal chariot. The foolish are sunk in it; for the wise there is no attachment for it. 출처 : 법구경

08월 25일

물거품처럼 세상을 보라 아지랑이처럼 세상을 보라 이와 같이 세상을 보는 사람은 죽음의 왕도 그를 보지 못한다. 當觀水上泡亦觀幻野馬如是不觀世亦不見死王 당관수상포 역관환야마 여시불관세 역불견사왕 Look upon the world as a bubble: look upon it as a mirage. Him who looks thus upon the world the king of death does not see. 출처 : 법구경

08월 24일

떳떳한 행동을 하라 나쁜 행동을 하지 말라 진리에 따라 행동하는 사람은 이 세상과 저 세상에서 편히 잠든다. 樂法樂學行愼莫行惡法能善行法者今世後世樂 낙법락학행 신막행악법 능선행법자 금세후세락 Follow the law of virtue, do not follow the law of sin. He who practises virtue lives happily in this world as well as in the world beyond. 출처 : 법구경
