그냥 들었다고해서 모든 것을 믿지 말고, 단순히 다수가 말하고 소문이 났다고 해서 모든 것을 믿지 말며, 그저 가지고 있는 신앙서에 기록되었다고 해서 모든 걸 믿지 말라. 단순히 스승이나 연장자의 권위때문에 모든 걸 믿지 말고,수세대를 거쳐 전승되어왔다는 이유 하나로 전통을 믿지 말라. 관찰하고 분석한 후, 모든 것이 이치에 합당하고,착한 자들에게 도움이 되며 모두에게 득이 된다면 그때 그것을 받아들여 그에 따라 살도록 하라. Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations.
