피난처를 찾아 불법승(삼보)에 나아간 사람은 슬픔, 슬픔의 원인, 슬픔의 초월, 슬픔의 소멸로 이끄는 팔정도인 네 가지 성스러운 진리를 올바른 앎으로 보게 되네.
이것이 진실로 안전한 피난처이리. 이것이 진실로 최고의 피난처이리. 그 같은 피난처를 찾음으로써 사람들은 모든 슬픔에서 벗어나게 되네.
He who has gone for refuge for the Buddha, the Dhamma, and the Sangha, sees with right knowledge the four Noble Truth: Sorrow, the Cause of Sorrow, the Transcending of Sorrow and the Noble Eightfold Path which leads to the Cessation of sorrow.
This, indeed, is refuge, secure. This, indeed, is refuge supreme. By seeking such refuge one is released from all sorrow.
